At the of 9, Keith had his very first experience in martial arts when he joined kempo karate. Throughout the years, he also tried shotokan karate, boxing, kickboxing, Japanese Jiu Jitsu but had no real flair for them so he chose not to continue on with any of them.
Fast forward to 2010 when he came across UFC and decided he wanted to try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Keith attended his very first class in Portlaoise and was hooked! One day he got chatting to his friend and SBG Tullamore Head Coach, Kieran Davern who told Keith that he was planning on opening his own club in Tullamore. The doors opened in September 2012. Keith became a member at the very start which he was more than happy to do and become a part of. Since then Keith feels that the club has gone from strength to strength becoming (in his own words) one of the best clubs in the country.
Keith was awarded his blue belt by John Kavanagh, SBGi, in December 2014 and soon after he was given the opportunity to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fundamental classes. What he love about Jiu Jitsu is he has been fortunate enough to travel which lead to him being able to train and meet with the Renzo Gracie, Marcelo Garcia, and “Kieran has also brought top class BJJ practitioners to our club”.
“My working background was in carpentry but it was never my dream job. I am now coaching which is something I never thought would be possible. I love what I do. I get to help people achieve their goals and grow as individuals. My ultimate goal is to be awarded my Black belt”
